About Hoshiko

I decided to re-write this page again, putting the emphasis more about myself when it comes to Japanese culture.

My virtual name is Yamaguchi Hoshiko (山口星子), but I’m not Japanese. I only came up with that name because during the time of thinking a username for myself most people I met has their own version of Japanese names and I thought it was pretty cool.  >.< I wanted a name that I can relate to so I chose Hoshiko. The kanji reads Star Child in Chinese. Little Star. Star Child. Yeah, that will do since I like stars. As for Yamaguchi, that’s totally random.

I haven’t been into anime for the longest time, but I certainly enjoy spending time watching a variety of anime although I tend to lean more towards slice-of-life, shōjo, romantic comedy and detective. This fact is apparent as you read my blog posts. My favorite anime of all time is definitely Lucky Star. Don’t ask me why because I don’t know how to explain. I just love it. I also enjoy anime such as Nodame Cantabile, Kimi ni Todoke, Usagi Drop and so on.

Besides anime, I read manga such as One Piece, Naruto, Skip Beat! and Kimi ni Todoke. I only read manga to keep myself updated with the latest story development of the mentioned manga. I saw the anime of these titles first before actually picking the manga up to read. You can say that I’m too impatient to wait for the story to be animated so I have to read the manga!

Quickly after picking up watching anime and reading manga as hobbies, I started collecting figures as well. I don’t buy a whole lot of figure mainly because I don’t have a lot of money to spare. But I do treat myself every now and then. Currently, I’m into scale figures.

I’m also an occasional gamer. Occasional is the keyword here. I have a few games waiting for me to get to them but somehow, it never happened. I always plan to finish a game within a time period but never once accomplish it. The only games I’ve ever completed are Exit, God of War: Chains of Olympus, God of War: Ghost of Sparta, Professor Layton and the Curious Village, and Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box. Hmm..on second thought, this isn’t related to Japanese culture huh?

So, there you have it. About Hoshiko.

    Hi Yamaguchi
I noticed we are following each other on twitter. I was hoping you could do a blog piece about an anime graphic tshirt line my brother and I are creating. http://www.boomslank.com.
We have no business capital but would love to get the word out. We were wondering if you could help us by blogging about us . We could use any help in getting the word out to the anime community.
Below are some of our pages and sites. Please take a look and see if we are worth a mention on your blog. :)

    Hi Hoshiko,

My name is Catherine Meyers, I’m the admin of a web blog directory, while reading your blog and it’s reviews and articles about anime, manga, series, movies (I didn’t enjoy much Kimi Ni Todoke’s movie either, but that’s because the anime is so wonderful), I was wondering if you might be interested in a link exchange (no money involved), I would add your blog in my directory so my visitors will also visit your site and in exchange you add my website to your blogroll or links. Please let me know if you are interested and the best of luck with World of Yamaguchi Hoshiko.

    Cheers!

    Cathy

Hello, Hoshiko. My name is kevo, from the blog Desu ex Machina. I am contacting you today to invite you to participate in Anime Power Rankings. APR is a weekly survey of airing shows bloggers are watching this season, and people’s preference for them. The result will be a weekly ranking of airing anime (posted on Sundays), selected by a survey of writers and blog owners in the anime community. A quick look shows that four people in your blogroll are current voters.

The purpose of this initiative is twofold. First, it provides a handy reference for people who don’t know what shows to watch in a season, or people who want to dive in midseason looking for good shows. The second is that it would be interesting seeing trends various shows go through throughout the season.

For an example of our results, see here: http://kevo.dasaku.net/?p=3208

For more information, see here: http://kevo.dasaku.net/?page_id=2417

Participation is very simple: just watch some anime and respond to an email ballot sent out every week. If this is something that interests you, please send me an email to animepowerrankings at gmail dot com
