Ramblings on OreImo2

Kyousuke Kirino

I won’t exactly call myself a fan of Ore no Imōto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai (OreImo for short). I watch the anime series only because it’s something easy to pass time with. It doesn’t require anything from my part except a good 20 minutes or less. My brain probably stops functioning actively once I play OreImo. That’s besides the point. The point is, because I don’t qualified as a fan, I almost never search any news/articles/etc regarding the series. There are a lot of things I don’t know about. Maybe that’s why I find the second season of OreImo a bit confusing.

Before I tell you what are the things that confuse me, let me be clear though – my confusion could be resulted from not refreshing my memory on the series before diving into the second season. Usually, I’ll try to refresh my memory via different methods but with OreImo? Nada. What more to say the first season was quite a while ago.

When A Seiyū Surprise You

The anime industry is full of talented seiyū. Be it veterans or newcomers, they have this cunning ability to catch you off guard at times. Meaning to say, you can never guess it is he or she who breathe life into the 2D characters. I have encountered many jaw-dropping experiences myself. I lost count the number of times it happened. However, I remember clearly my first surprise.

You see, I was never really into knowing about voice actors. I was only interested how will a story be delivered so I never bothered to check out the cast. Then came one day when I was told the voice actor for Naruto‘s Gaara and Bamboo Blade‘s Dan-kun is one and the same person. Ishida Akira.

Otaku in Ore no Imōto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai

Kyōsuke Kōsaka, a normal seventeen-year-old high school student living in Chiba, has not gotten along with his younger sister Kirino in years. For longer than he can remember, Kirino has ignored his comings and goings and looked at him with spurning eyes. It seemed as if the relationship between Kyōsuke and his sister, now fourteen, would continue this way forever. One day however, Kyōsuke finds a DVD case of a magical girl anime which had fallen in his house’s entrance way. To Kyōsuke’s surprise, he finds a hidden eroge inside the case and he soon learns that both the DVD and the eroge belong to Kirino. That night, Kirino brings Kyōsuke to her room and reveals herself to be an otaku with an extensive collection of moe anime and younger sister-themed eroges she has been collecting in secret. Kyōsuke quickly becomes Kirino’s confidant for her secret hobby.

Warnings – there may be spoilers ahead. I don’t think I have the talent to ramble about an anime without providing references to it.
